Love in the Sun

Greetings from Miami Beach :-)

2011 has started out fast and furious, and there’s so much going on…pant, pant, pant… I’ve been posting some things on Facebook (Make sure you Like http://www.facebook.com/wendyparrmusic#!/pages/Cassandra-Kubinski/405380407570 for the latest) and www.Myspace.com/CassandraKubinski , but here’s the full scoop.

I’m in the studio with Edd Kalehoff and Kalehoff Productions continuing to work on songs for a brand new album. This process has been an amazing one since we started recording together last year, and I’ve never felt better or more excited about the songs I’m writing, the collaboration in getting incredible musicians and sounds in the records, and the opportunities I’ve had to learn even more about old vs. new-school recording processes and techniques. I’ve always felt like an analog baby living in a digital world, in so many ways, and my writing and propensity for hard-hitting production and contemporary storytelling, mixed with Edd’s background in through-composing themes, orchestrations, and production (they were some of the first guys in NYC to even use ProTools!) is leading to a dramatic, sensual, almost cinematic mix of stories, live band, loops and beats, strings, organs, and atmosphere…I love it. Check it out on the LISTEN page here, where our first 5 songs are posted.

We’re now between the NYC and FL studios, getting musicians and beat makers in on the tracks, adding bells and whistles, and watching Brian consume yet another cup of coffee. In fact, I just met more NYC music people in my office away from home (aka the Starbucks) on Miami Beach.

There’s also some cool stuff happening in video-land! In association with ROAM Pictures, my great friend Maria Rusolo’s film company, we shot a music video for Textual Healing, my SNL-style parody of Sexual Healing, last week in NYC. I can’t wait to share the final cut- we’re in the studio sweetening the music part this week! It was an awesome couple days in multiple locations, including the Gibson showroom space I love so much. So many costumes, my incredible friends who came thru as last-minute office workers, diners, and backup singers, and as much fun as you can have as a low (no?) budget film crew slogging thru NYC in the worst Winter on record. They are awesome. Stay tuned for the video premiere here!

What else… writing with some producers on pop tracks, singing demos and jingles for other writers, singing back up in the Joe Frazier band (yes, the boxer sings…and we’ll be out and about touring this year), and writing custom songs for weddings and anniversaries. That has been pretty incredible- getting to be part of people’s most important life moments as the soundtrack! It’s a huge honor and an awesome challenge to write a song that will reflect what the person or couple really wants to say to each other, in a musical way that matches how they feel.

So, Dan and I are thinking Mexican food for lunch before we hit the beach, and then maybe some Stereo Love in the club on this gorgeous Valentine’s Day. Sending you love and sunshine- oooh, for a super romantic audio cocktail on your sexy romantic day, visit www.ckubinski.com and listen to “First Kiss”!

Love and dark chocolate,
Cassandra
